The government of Chile has declared a state of emergency as a late frost has caused damage to about $1bn worth of fruit exports. The affected region is the main fruit and wine producing part of the country, and includes prominent vineyards. Fruit exports were worth $4.3bn last year, while wine exports reached $1.8bn.
