In July, an intrepid Loadstar team will undertake the 24-Peak Challenge on behalf of Seafarers UK, the charity which provides vital support to seafarers in need and their families.
It is, quite frankly, going to be difficult; challenge is the right word. Our team of five has to climb 24 peaks in the Lake District, all over 2,400 feet, in 24 hours.
The course is 31 miles long and includes Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England. All participants will need to be physically fit – with bucket-loads of stamina.
The Loadstar team (see pic) features a variety of ages and fitness levels, making it even more exciting. It comprises Arabella Tancred, managing director, (50) and her husband Ian (53), Mike Wackett, sea freight consultant (67), Gavin van Marle, managing editor (45), and Alex Whiteman, reporter, (32). Alex Lennane, publisher, (won’t say) will be supporting the team – from the nearest pub.
We are looking to raise £4,000 for Seafarers UK. We’d love you to donate – and we’ll give you something back if you do.
So what would you get for your donation?
Seafarers UK does great work: it supports those working at sea in commercial ships and fishing fleets, and their families, with mental health issues and welfare, and it provides support to maritime youth organisations. Last year it awarded 76 grants to 56 maritime welfare charities. You only need to read stories like this to understand how important charities like this are.
Please help us, help them.
Thank you!
