Former head honcho at Heathrow, Tony Douglas, has been appointed to lead the turnaround at Etihad following the disastrous equity alliance strategy, which has seen Alitalia and Air Berlin go bust. The appointment comes after James Hogan announced in May he would be stepping down. Bloomberg reports Mr Douglas will take the reins of the Gulf-based carrier in January. In the meantime, Ray Gammell will remain as interim chief, a role he has held since Hogan’s departure.
