The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority today reiterated its decision that the acquisition of three ro-ro vessels from bankrupt cross-Channel operator SeaFrance by Eurotunnel and the subsequent lease of them to ex-SeaFrance employees’ cooperative MyFerryLink represented a distortion of market competition in the Dover-Calais trade. There is still room for Eurotunnel to appeal, and judging by the comments of chief executive Jacques Gounon this morning, expect one to be lodged.
