Following various reports in the media that Lufthansa is shortly to get rid of its MD-11F fleet, CargoForwarder has attempted to get to the truth. The rumours were sparked by Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr last month at an investor day, when he showed a chart of which aircraft would be withdrawn, while indicating it would get additional 777 freighters to retain capacity.
However, Lufthansa’s relevant boards have not yet made a decision, and at least some of the MD-11Fs may remain in the fleet until 2025. Lufthansa did confirm to CargoForqwarder that its freighter capacity would not shrink, however, and the older aircraft would be replaced with 777 freighters.
