Gary Jeffreys

Zencargo has appointed former Maersk exec Gary Jeffreys as its SVP for the EMEA region.

Bringing more than 20 years’ experience to the role, Mr Jeffreys will head the AI-powered forwarder’s strategy across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, targeting larger customers.

CEO Richard Fattal said: “Gary’s decision to join Zencargo is a real validation of what we’ve built. We’re seeing a clear shift from enterprise shippers no longer satisfied with fragmented providers and disconnected tools. Our platform gives customers a degree of control and insight that simply doesn’t exist elsewhere in the market.”

The appointment comes three months after Maersk announced Mr Jeffreys was leaving after 21 years, having most recently served as MD for the UK and Ireland.

A LinkedIn post indicated he had “decided it was time for a new chapter,” but as The Loadstar reported, there was speculation Mr Jeffreys had been forced out. One source said: “He was on holiday for two weeks and then signed off for a few weeks, followed by an announcement that he had left Maersk.”

Responding to those rumours shortly after the news of his Zencargo appointment had been confirmed, Mr Jeffreys rejected the claims, telling The Loadstar that they were untruths. “I was on holiday then gardening leave, it’s unfortunately as boring as that,” he added.

During his tenure at the Danish carrier, he held a number of roles, joining its UK commercial arm following its takeover of South African container line Safmarine. Briefly departing in 2020 to join CMA CGM as its UK MD, he returned to Maersk a year later as UK & Ireland MD.
