As with many other industries, cheap labour was a key advantage for Chinese port operators as they expanded operations rapidly over the past two decades to keep with surging container export volumes. And, also as with other industries that, pool of cheap has ben shrinking at an alarming rate over the past few years, especially in its business capital of Shanghai. In preparation of a worker-scare future, Shanghai today opened its first fully automated box facility, representing the fourth phase of development at its giant offshore Yangshan container complex.
