Cautionary article from the website of the US retailer organisation, the National Retail Federation, in advance of the peak shopping season, when cargo theft also hits a peak. Insurance data shows that there is as much as a 40% increase in freight crime during public holidays such as Thanksgiving, when most people – including warehouse security – are enjoying a break. A timely article, given that supply chain security intelligence firm FreightWatch this week identified the greater Los Angeles area as seeing an increase in freight crime far above that of the rest of the country. It said recent incidents meant that the average loss in the region was some 32% higher than the national US average.
