Google’s driverless cars are making their way from the drawing board onto the highways, the US Air Force’s drone aircraft appear to be the new de facto frontline soldier, so we really shouldn’t be surprised at the idea of an unmanned cargo aircraft (UCAs). Its proponents say UCAs will never compete with large, manned freighters – and The Loadstar believes that. What is harder to credit is that its designers seem to have overlooked the fact they will inevitably have to compete with bellies in passenger aircraft – and that is a mostly one-sided fight.
