The ever-excellent Janet Porter, chief correspondent of Lloyd’s List, on container shipping’s latest paradox: despite the fact that there is obvious overcapacity now, in just a few years’ time there could actually be a shortage of ships. Rightly so, few lines or non-operating owners are ordering currently, and even fewer banks are willing to finance new-builds. But that could spell trouble for the future.
