Saudia Cargo, whose attraction to older aircraft types has always shed doubts in the market on its claim to pay fair fuel prices, is to modernise its fleet. Not only is it to introduce four 777Fs next year, but it is also introducing three or four younger 747-400Fs into its fleet “soon”. And gradually phasing out all older aircraft, after the government passed a regulation banning airlines from flying aircraft over 20 years old in the country. The measure was brought in to protect Hajj pilgrims from charter companies with excessively old aircraft, but will cover freighters too.
