If the recent rumour that Walmart could move into air services is correct, it will have a long way to go to catch up with Amazon. Because an even more recent rumour is that Amazon Air is launching in Australia, tucking another continent under its belt.
Being a rumour, of course, it is not confirmed, but Simple Flying says it fits with the news of a start-up airline, looking to fly 757s or 767s, launching in Brisbane – a place Amazon has said was a “key strategic location”.
On the other hand, Amazon has previously opted for ACMI deals with players such as ATSG and Atlas, and more recently low-cost carrier Sun Country. Would it really start an airline from scratch in a new territory? Is this another carrier, but backed by Amazon? If so, will it really fly internationally? Time will tell…
