Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport has hit the headlines twice last week. Not only is it reported to be the temporary refuge for wanted man Edward Snowden (and a lot of journalists), but it is also undergoing an ownership change. TPS Avia Holding has bought a 74.9% stake in the new freight terminal, a 44% stake in the existing freight terminal and a 50% stake in Airport Moskva, the company which controls cargo and mail processing. TPS’s involvement in the airport is expected to grow further, as it is likely to be the main contender to buy the government’s 83% share, when the the hub is privatised. TPS Avia is controlled by billionaire tycoon Arkady Rotenburg, who also happens to be President Putin’s longtime judo partner.
