And another one bites the dust: Transport Logistic, which until today was insisting May’s mega event in Munich would go ahead, has cancelled.

Munich is arguably the biggest event in the freight calendar, but it was hard to see how it could go ahead.

One potential exhibitor told The Loadstar last week that, while the company wanted to attend, it could not envisage how large a stand it would need to ensure social distancing. Its strategy has been to allow as many as possible to crowd at its exhibit.

“We don’t think a stand would be appropriate this year,” he said.

Transport Logistic organiser Messe München has cited international travel restrictions among other challenges.

“Our customers would have to start detailed planning for transport logistic now and need planning security,” said MD Stefan Rummel. “The ongoing dynamic infection and travel restrictions make it impossible to successfully hold Transport Logistic at the beginning of May.”

Messe München added that it would, instead, hold an online conference from 4-6 May.

“Transport Logistic remains the most important hub for B2B networking in the global logistics industry,” said Mr Rummel. “The new digital formats and their further development will continue to enrich our trade shows in the future and make networking more efficient and better than ever.”

Birgit Kastner-Simon, member of Dachser’s  exhibitor advisory board and director corporate marketing, said: “The need to exchange ideas with international partners and customers is greater than ever, especially in these challenging times. In normal times, Transport Logistic would be the best platform for this.

“We will make the best possible use of the upcoming events in the transport logistic network for us in order to come together again in Munich in 2023 and make the international logistics industry get-together a complete success once again.”

The next Transport Logistic as a physical trade fair will take place from 9-12 May 2023.
