The personal blog of Transport Intelligence chief executive John Manners-Bell asks what are the chances of Japan ever opening up its 3PL market to foreign companies. While Japan’s major transport and logistics providers – think MOL, Yusen Logistics or Japan Airlines – have been enthusiastic participants of globalisation and outsourcing, it has largely been a one-way street, with few operators able to access their domestic market. If they do so in future, Mr Manners-Bell suggests it may be due to Chinese, rather than western, pressure.
