Just days after The Loadstar reporting on DNV/GL concerns that the shipping industry will not meet its 2050 emissions targets, CMA CGM has announced it will not use polar pathways as it looks to reduce its environmental footprint. DC Velocity reports that moving vessels through the routes that have emerged as a result of melting ice would increase the risks to marine wildlife and the chances of pollution in a region already struggling with climate change. Chief executive Rodolphe Saade said the region plays a role in regulating not only global climate patterns but also ocean currents.
