China’s civil aviation authority has warned that cargo airlines may have to move out of Shanghai’s Pudong and Hongqiao airports owing to increasing volumes. Instead, they will be moved to Jiangsu or Zhejiang provinces as passenger numbers surge in Shanghai. Cargo turnover has tripled in the past 30 years while passenger traffic at both airports combined is expected to rise from 80m to 120m by 2020. Low cost carriers and private jets will also be expected to move.
