The Washington Post has reported that online retail giant Amazon is set to open its first bricks-n-mortar store in Manhattan to cater for the pre-Christmas shopping spree, as it seeks to expand on the number of touch-points it has with consumers – and perhaps tacit admittance that omni-channel retailing is more effective than online-only. From a supply chain point of view, the site could serve “as a convenient place for Amazon to store its inventory for same-day delivery items”.
