According to shippers interviewed by Splash24/7, in the days before the China Shipping-Cosco merger, the former carrier was renowned for high levels of customer service, and the latter not. Unfortunately, the merger, which saw CSCL’s container shipping business effectively taken over by Cosco (leaving it as a bulk carrier and ship finance operation), has meant that Cosco’s culture became dominant, and shippers are beginning to vote with their feet. “Cosco appears to have completely mishandled CSCL staff and equipment integration,” one veteran observer told the publication.
