Having up till now serviced Russian demand for winter citrus fruits through transhipment at the Swedish port of Helsingborg, Maersk Line and its intra-Europe subsidiary Seago Line are to launch two new services into the Russian gateway of St Petersburg. They will link the port with Morocco’s main fruit export port of Casablanca for the first time. The catalyst for the service is the addition of seven ice-class vessels, the first of whihcis the Wes Amelie (pictured), a 1,036teu feedermax vessel owned by Wessels Reederei that was previously chartered to Unifeeder at a rate of $9,313 per day, according to vesselvalues.com.
