Lufthansa Cargo has confirmed to customers that pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) has called for an all-day strike, beginning at midnight tonight.

The carrier warned it would mean changes to some flight schedules.

It said: “After learning of the strike call, Lufthansa Cargo immediately took measures to minimise any restrictions in flight and handling operations. Details are under review, and a special flight schedule is being prepared.”

All flights expected to land in Frankfurt tomorrow will take place, while its 777F rotations will also continue, operated by AeroLogic.

LC confirmed departures from Frankfurt to Chicago, New York, Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Mumbai, and its Lufthansa CityLine A321F service to Malta and Tunis will also go ahead.

However, the carrier noted that the transit and export of FWN (tropical fish, worms and shrimp larvae) and FZN (animals, including reptiles, birds and fish eggs for reproduction) has been stopped in Frankfurt tomorrow and Saturday.

It added: “Depending on the extent of the strike participation at Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa and related flight cancellations, freighter and belly capacities will not be available for the transport of shipments on 2 September.

“We are working at full speed to quickly rebook freight shipments affected by flight cancellations onto the next available flights. The rebooking will be done automatically. We are in close exchange with all parties involved. Our goal is to present a stable flight schedule again as soon as possible.”

The airline asked customers to check the status of flights on its website, and asked them not to deliver cargo to the airport if flights had been cancelled, until shipments have been rebooked.
