In the wake of the ceasefire between unions and employers on the US east and Gulf coasts, the New York Times has written an in-depth profile of the port of New York and New Jersey as it is today, and as it was in years gone by. One weak point in the article is that the local union, the International Longshoremen’s Association, refused to comment, resulting in a piece that is inevitably skewed towards management’s vision of how the port will evolve.
