With its investments in automation at several of sister company APM Terminals’ facilities around the world, Maersk is one of the leaders in bringing advanced technology to the shipping sector. However, it appears to regard autonomous vessels as a step too far, according to this report from tech news site V3. “Even if technology advances, I don’t expect we will be allowed to sail around with 400-meter long container ships, weighing 200,000 tonnes without any human beings onboard,” said chief executive Soren Skou.
