Uber’s $2.25bn acquisition of US supply chain tech firm Transplace from private equity fund TPG Capital will push the Uber Freight division into profitability, as well as expand the number of services it offers via its platform, if everything goes according to plan.

The headlines will focus on Uber, but there is deeper private equity story underway, and one obvious winner appears to be private equity firm Greenbrier, which owned Transplace until it sold it to TPG in 2017.
