Ostend’s mayor has said the Belgian port will not be ready for a new ferry service in time for Brexit. Bart Tommelein told the BBC it was “impossible” for the port to be ready, adding that he would be travelling to Ramsgate, the UK port involved in the prospective new service, next week to discuss the matter.

His comments followed beleaguered UK transport secretary Chris Grayling again defending the deal he struck with Seaborne Freight. And, The Loadstar has today established that Ramsgate faces structural challenges in catering for multiple daily scheduled sailings.
