Hong Kong awaits its own super storm as US east coast braces for Florence

Hurricane Florence maybe taking all the news coverage, but super typhoon Mangkhat is set to hit Hong Kong. Maersk has warned of a “high risk” that its operations there and in the Pearl River Delta will be affected, while OOCL has been diverting ships. This article from the SCMP reveals that losses to the city could be about US$627m a day. Meanwhile, in the US, Boeing has shifted aircraft to Seattle and is closing its South Carolina operations; more than 1,000 flights, and ports and factories, including those of Volvo, Daimler and Pfizer, in Florence’s path are closed, reports Bloomberg.
