Two big dollops of news about Amazon. In the UK it has applied for planning permission to extend a warehouse at Manchester’s Airport City to take it to 654,000sq ft, in a move which would create 1,500 jobs. The facility would be near supplier DHL, which opened a warehouse there last October. Amazon’s growing interest in logistics has also lead it to invest in trailers. It won’t be delivering to customers, though. All its trucks will be used to drive between its various fulfillment centres and warehouses. And its existing trucking partners will continue to drive for them – just with Amazon-branded trailers.
