The Commission has proposed a plan to implement the emissions trading scheme for fuel burned within European airspace by EU and non-EU airlines alike. While it’s easy to admire the Commission’s tenacity when it comes to environmental measures, as IATA said, this kind of unilateral action could “take us back to the brink of a trade war”.
