Recently we reported on a new reefer ship design unveiled by Stena Line in conjunction with long-time reefer shipping specialist Birger Lindberg Skov. Following presentation of the new design, the Cool Logistics conference in Rotterdam last month saw an intriguing debate between Thomas Eskesen, head of refrigerated business at Maersk Line, and Kevin Bragg, managing director of Bonita Europe, one of the largest banana suppliers to European consumers, in which the economic grounds for investment into new conventional reefer vessels. In short, Mr Bragg can see merits where Maersk cannot.
