THE Alliance members Hapag-Lloyd and Ocean Network Express (ONE) have continued the strategy of extending a joint offering into secondary trades, today announcing the launch of a service connecting India, the Middle East and Africa.
The Middle East-India-Africa Express (MIAX) service – alternatively known as the AIM service by ONE – is set to launch in October and will connect ports in the Arabian Gulf, India, Colombo (Sri Lanka), La Réunion, South Africa, and West Africa.
“We are expanding our service offerings for the growing African market and integrating the continent even more tightly into our global network,” said Mark Wottke, Hapa-Lloyd’s senior director trade management Africa.
Hapag-Lloyd said the MIAX service would connect with THE Alliance’s deepsea east-west services via transhipment at the two hubs of Dubai and Colombo.
The service will deploy nine vessels, each with a capacity of 2,800 teu, five of which will be provided by Hapag-Lloyd and four by ONE.
The service will comprise the following port rotation: Jebel Ali – Mundra – Nhava Sheva – Colombo – La Réunion – Durban – Cape Town – Tema – Lagos (Tincan and Apapa) – Cape Town – Durban – Jebel Ali.
