Rumours of a possible merger between South Korean box lines Hanjin Shipping and Hyundai Merchant Marine simply will not go away. Although HMM last week denied that a merger was on the table, following local reports that the government had requested the companies begin talks. Financially, both lines have been treading thin ice for a number of years and with merger discussions between China Shipping and Cosco underway, the rationale is probably stronger than ever.
