Canadian longshore and warehouse workers rallied on Saturday in Vancouver to protest a controversial border pre-clearance bill. The Vancouver Sun reports that union leadership fears Bill C-23 – which received royal assent last week – could destroy careers. The bill expands pre-clearance between Canada and the US at Canadian airports and crossings. Proponents claim it will speed the flow of people and goods across the border. Once Bill C-23 is enacted, union members who are approved to work at the port will have their profiles submitted to the US Department of Homeland Security for vetting.
