As strikes continue to hobble Brazilian customs, the government is now facing up to protests linked to rising fuel prices. The Brazilian Truck Drivers Association (ABCAM) have enacted blockades across the country’s major highways in response to “crippling” fuel price hikes. The Rio Times claims the truckers are asking for government subsidies to help offset the hikes that have seen fuel account for some 42% of transport costs. Yesterday Reuters reported that the state-owned petrol company Petrobas had slashed diesel prices, albeit for 15 days.
