Just how big is the expanded Panama Canal actually going to be? While the canal’s authority’s official line is that ships up to 12,000teu will be able to transit it, with ships larger than that limited by their beam, as was the case with its previous inception, new research shows that the real limit will be its draught – the conclusion is that larger ships will be able to pass through it.
