Delays to the much-heralded expansion of the Panama Canal have led to celebrations at the rival Suez Canal, according to new analysis by Drewry. Not only has it already convinced several shipping lines to switch routes – taking about 10% more vessel capacity between October 2010 and October 2012 – but it still has time to encourage more ships along its route. However, says Drewry, Panama should be able to win back the business, if it gets its pricing right.
