Shippers are making waves in Europe. The Clean Corporate Alliance, which includes Ikea, Nestlé, Heathrow, DHL, Schenker and Philips, has urged the EU to enforce the reduction of truck emissions within two years.
HGVs – surprisingly – make up less than 5% of Europe’s road traffic but account for a quarter of carbon emissions, more than aircraft, in fact. And in 20 years, HGV fuel efficiency has barely changed. The companies have called for the EU to set new standards and “more challenging targets”.
