Scotland’s Glasgow Prestwick Airport, which now hosts only Ryanair on the passenger side, is up for sale. The Scottish government has revealed that it has received several expressions of interest, and will pick three bids to choose from. While it has suffered from passenger competition from other Scottish airports, Prestwick is hoping to become a cargo hub. It also wants to be licensed as a spaceport for horizontal launches and is on the shortlist to become a logistics hub for Heathrow’s expansion. Current freighter operators include Cargologicair and Cargolux. The airport was taken over by the government for £1 in 2013 and it has pumped nearly £40m in since then. Will there be a cargo-friendly backer prepared to take it on?
