Metro Shipping, the UK-based forwarder, has announced changes to its top team.
MD Grant Liddell now becomes chief executive officer, to focus on strategic issues, while Andrew Smith, formerly CCO, takes over as MD.
Metro last month won ‘Air Business of the Year’ at the Logistics UK award ceremony in London, and has also been nominated as a finalist in BIFA’s 2024 Freight Service Awards, to be held next week, in both Air Cargo Services and the Specialist Service categories.
Metro said last year its Air Cargo Services nomination stemmed from its work on changing handling for perishables at Birmingham Airport, via a project with a fresh produce importer.
“Metro innovated a handling process that made direct imports of perishable goods into Birmingham viable, in a move that has not only helped the importer meet its sustainability goals but also provided a faster, more efficient solution for bringing fresh produce to market,” it said.
For its Specialist Services entry, Metro pointed to its AI-driven customs clearance solution, CuDoS (Customs Documentation Solution), designed to alleviate port-Brexit issues by digitising and automating customs workflows, using AI and machine learning to process large volumes of documents with over 99% accuracy.
