Its garment industry has been one of the global supply chain success stories of recent years, but its burgeoning leather export industry is in urgent need of reform. Mainly centred on an unregulated district in the centre of Dhaka, the business, which generated $663 million in exports last year to western high streets, continues to produce a huge amount of pollution which is having a terrible effect on the local population, according to human rights groups.
