Easter buzz, Taiwanese carriers' explosive growth...and grief

There are few people better placed to write an obituary of former Evergreen founder and chairman Chang Yung-fa than Lloyd’s List’s Janet Porter – and for this article the publication has unlocked its normally unforgiving paywall. Evergreen issued a press release claiming business as usual, but it is difficult to believe, given that Mr Chang controlled so much. He leaves four sons, although only one appears to have shown much interest in following in his father’s footsteps, and while shipping’s favourite would clearly be Bronson Hsieh, it is unclear whether he has such a deep understanding of the other sectors where the group has interests – principally aviation and hotels. As always, The Loadstar offers its condolences to family, friends and colleagues.
