Cargo thieves in Brazil are likely to find life tougher after the legislative assembly in Sao Paulo passed a bill introducing stricter penalties for the sale or receipt of stolen goods. Brazil’s freight industry has become something of a target, in particular the high-value pharmaceutical industry. Sao Paulo itself sees more than half the country’s cargo thefts – which, according to Freightwatch, amounted to $442m in the fist 10 months of the year.
