The director of cargo at Cologne-Bonn Airport, Torsten Wefers, is to take up the role of commercial director and vp sales & marketing of cargo-focused Liege Airport, as well as gaining a place on the executive board.
Mr Wefers has worked at Cologne since 2003 in a variety of roles since 2009. Prior to that, he spent two years at Düsseldorf International Airport.
Laurent Jossart, CEO of Liege Airport, said: “Torsten has extensive experience in air freight, marketing and business relations. Throughout his career he has demonstrated his thorough knowledge of air transport, cargo and the logistics chain. Torsten will help us in coordinating development with our environmental masterplan.”
Mr Wefers said: “In recent years, [Liege] airport has seen a sharp increase in airfreight traffic, which has positioned it as a leading European air cargo hub. In order to achieve its ambitious strategic plan, I shall pay particular attention to implementing a high-performance digital system for the cargo community and to strengthening multimodal logistics solutions.”
Steven Verhasselt left Liege in December after 15 years, most recently as vp commercial. He has founded cargo consultancy FB Cargo Strategy Consulting.
