More than 100 companies and associations representing the US agricultural industry have written to Senators Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell to urge them to consider a bill which addresses “unreasonable ocean carrier practices that are undermining US export competitiveness”.
Noting that “the transportation crisis for US agriculture products has become increasingly dire”, the letter said current laws were insufficient to protect US shippers. It urged them to advance legislation to ensure carriers took responsibility for exports, and “additional enforcement tools to address injurious carrier practices”.
