Preparations for the possible US east coast port strikes are underway, with shipping lines – required to give 30 days notice of surcharges – announcing strike surcharges. As well as those lines mentioned in this story, Hyundai Merchant Marine and Yang Ming are also said to be applying extra charges if the strikes go ahead. Maersk, meanwhile, has warned shippers that there could be limited capacity to re-route to the west coast.
