The ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Ghent are facing congestion today as port workers stage a 24-hour strike. According to Inchcape Shipping, there is a backlog of 65 ships outside Antwerp waiting at anchorage to enter the port, while 12 are waiting to leave – although the article here gives different numbers. The port workers are picketing entry roads, preventing staff from getting in. More strikes are expected in Belgium, with a national general strike scheduled for December 15.
