In a decision that removes much of the import restriction on US beef imposed at the end of 2003 as a result of the BSE scare, Japan has allowed imports of beef from US cattle less than 30 months of age. The new rules, effective from February, are expected to increase the volume of US beef and byproducts exported to Japan, reports the USDA Economic Research Service.
