Brazil’s beef export trade grew 25% in the first quarter of 2013 compared with the same period a year earlier, due to a more favorable exchange rate and increased demand abroad, according to Reuters. The world’s largest beef exporter reportedly shipped 324,500 tonnes abroad in the first three months of 2013. Sales to Russia, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Chile, Egypt and Europe made up 60% of volumes. Exports to Hong Kong hit an all-time high, reflecting strong demand in South East Asia and China.
