A ban on ritual slaughter is impacting Poland’s domestic and export trade in kosher and halal meat, according to JTA. The Jewish news website reported on 8 April that Poland’s 6,000-strong Jewish community has only about one month’s supply of kosher meat left. Poland’s export trade in kosher and halal meat was worth around $259m at the end of last year, according to French news agency AFP, with kosher exports accounting for 20%. However, meat exports have declined by 30% since the beginning of the year, according to the Polish Meat Association.
