Eli Glickman

Zim Integrated Shipping Services has appointed Eli Glickman as its president and chief executive, replacing Rafi Danieli who announced plans to step down last year.

Mr Glickman, a habitual chief executive, has held the top spot at numerous companies over the years. He joins Zim from Israel Electric Company, having spent seven years as its CEO.

Prior to that he occupied the deputy chief executive spot at Partner, Orange Cellular Communications, having previously managed the company’s customer division.

He also had a two-year spell as chief executive of logistics company Exel MPL.

Before entering business, Mr Glickman was a commanding officer in the Israeli Navy Special Operations Unit and served as a missile ship commander and a naval attaché in Washington.

“Despite challenges throughout the liner industry, Zim has continued to perform well relative to its peers,” said Mr Glickman. “Zim is a dynamic and exciting company and I am looking forward to joining.”

He will take up the position on 1 July, following Mr Danieli’s departure after eight years as the Israeli carrier’s chief executive. Mr Danieli held numerous positions during his time at Zim, including chief financial officer and deputy chief executive.

Mr Danieli said it had been a privilege to lead the carrier during the most difficult times the industry had ever faced.

“For the last eight financial quarters, our operating margins have put us in the top tier of liner companies,” he added.

Alongside announcing Mr Glickman’s appointment, the carrier also announced another departure. Chief financial officer Guy Eldar submitted his resignation following a four-and-a-half-year tenure, citing personal reasons. A replacement has yet to be announced.
