German 3PL and road haulage operator Dachser has acquired the remaining 50% of shares in Italian food logistics specialist Papp Italia.

It will take full control of the company, which has been renamed Dachser Italy Food Logistics.

Dachser acquired a 50% in stake in the firm in 2012. Full ownership of the Verona-headquartered firm includes the integration of its supply chains and IT systems, and Papp Italia’s operations are now part of Dachser’s European Food Network.

Alfred Miller, MD of Dachser Food Logistics, said: “With its strategically strong position in northern Italy, Dachser Italy Food Logistics is an ideal starting point from which to expand and further internationalise our contract logistics business for food in Italy.

“By introducing standardised processes, we’ve made the service we can offer European food producers and retailers even more attractive. This takes our import/export business to a new level, which in turn further strengthens the European Food Network.”

Dachser Italy Food Logistics will ship around 230,000 tonnes of fresh, temperature-controlled and ambient food to more than 1,200 retail and industry consignees across Italy a year.

Its facility near Verona has 17,000sq metres of storage in a variety of temperature zones, has 41 loading bays and employs 170 staff.

The acquisition also includes a facility near the south Italian port of Taranto, which organises full loads for domestic and for export trade.
